چکیده

Urban areas which are situated at the intersection of Alpine valleys are submitted to complex atmospheric flow patterns with significant impact on air quality. Local dynamics develop systems of slope and valley winds which interact ones with the others. Pollutants evolve according to chemical reactions homogeneously as gases and heterogeneously with particulate matters .There is a growing concern about PM10 and PM2.5 which are considered as harmful for health. They mostly come from combustion processes, directly or through chemical transformation : street and road traffic, industry and also domestic heating which is a significant contributor in winter at mid latitude. Atmosphere dynamics combine with chemistry in determining the evolution of these pollutants since they are transported from emission through winds which are highly changing along the day and with the location inside the area or interest. Dilution of chemical species is due to turbulence of the atmospheric flow. Consequently, it varies with time and in space.

بررسی پارامترسازی عمق لایه پایدار شبانه و تاثیر آن در آلودگی هوای یک منطقه شهری با توپوگرافی پیچیده (تهران)

Mixing height of the atmospheric boundary depends on the vertical variation of temperature in the atmosphere which includes temperature inversion (including surface and elevated inversions) that has a significant effect on air quality. The mixing height like some other meteorological variables has diurnal variations. The reason for that is its dependence on some other basic meteorological param...

Modelling photochemistry in alpine valleys

Road traffic is a serious problem in the Chamonix Valley, France: traffic, noise and above all air pollution worry the inhabitants. The big fire in the Mont-Blanc tunnel made it possible, in the framework of the POVA project (POllution in Alpine Valleys), to undertake measurement campaigns with and without heavy-vehicle traffic through the Chamonix and Maurienne valleys, towards Italy (before a...

Depth - hoar growth rates near a rocky outcrop

Observations of slab-a\'alanche releases in alpine terrain ha\'e led to the hypothesis that rocky outcrops can influence thc spatial distributions of temperature and heat flow in dry alpine snow covers and thus c011lrol the local distribution of de pth hoar. \ Vc investigate the effects of terrain on crystal growth by using a two-dimensional finite element model of heat flow coupled with a mod...

Measuring Snow Depth with a Terrestrial Laser Ranging System

Knowledge on the spatial and temporal distribution of snow depth is one of the key parameter in the assessment of avalanche hazards, for snow drift and avalanche modelling and model verification. Reliable measurements of snow depth distribution are of interest for practitioners as well as for scientists. Most of the conventional methods like snow pits, probing or profiling deliver point informa...

Fractional snow-covered area parameterization over complex topography

Fractional snow-covered area (SCA) is a key parameter in large-scale hydrological, meteorological and regional climate models. Since SCA affects albedos and surface energy balance fluxes, it is especially of interest over mountainous terrain where generally a reduced SCA is observed in large grid cells. Temporal and spatial snow distributions are, however, difficult to measure over complex topo...
